VANCOUVER, BC (March13, 2010) — Despite slightly
cool and damp weather, over 800 runners participated
in the 2010 St. Patrick's Day 5k. With a strong
field assembled, we watched as both the men's
and women's course records were broken by Dylan
Wykes in a time of 14:30 and Kristina Rody in
16:46. This set them both up for not only the
overall cash prizing from BMO but also taking
home the course record bonus sponsored by Patricia
Houlihan and the cash grab for the fastest mile
sponsored by EBA Engineering Consultants Ltd.
The overall depth of the field was top notch
with 23 runners posting a sub-17 minute 5k time
securing the St Patrick's Day 5k as one of the
fastest and most competitive 5k races in the
Lower Mainland.
It
wasn't all about fast times as the bulk of the
race consisted of hundreds of runners and walkers
dressed in green with some great costumes. All
there to not only take part in the Granville
Island Brewing after party but also raising
funds for the Canadian Diabetes Association.
With the after party stretching into the late
afternoon, the 2010 St Patrick's Day 5k could
be consider no less than a complete success!
